Got here at 21:30 on a Thursday evening and the place was crowded. Luckily we could sit at a small table near the stairs. No menu explanation or whatsoever. You have a QR code, so you scan it. Our waitress explained a few things and even paired our dishes with good wines. We went for the burrata with bread, which was a nice starter. Then a good portion of octopus and the cheek stew. All three were delicious. End it with one of the best cheesecakes I've eaten.
We had a very good time and food at Macareno. We luckily found a table for 2 the same day. We had 2 dishes, the fries with egg and shrimp and the steak (solomillo de terner). Both were delicious, so was the cheesecake we had afterwards. We wanted to order one more plate but the waiter told us that it would be too much and suggested we order it if we feel like it. That was good advice actually and we appreciate him not trying to oversell us food we wouldn’t be able to eat. Overall it was a very good experience. We will definitely go again.
Try to go every time I am in Madrid. Classic tavern style grub with a youthful spirit. Super friendly service and some serious food. Love the bar seating. Been by myself and with other people, for lunch and for dinner. Doesn’t disappoint.
We arrived around 19:30. Got a seat at the bar and browsed the menu. Had delicious pastas bravas, ham croquettes and fried cod bites. Food came quickly but staggered which is always great. Portions are big (overheard the option of a half portion which may be of interest if you want to sample more items). Whole meal and a glass of wine and a beer was €37.50 which we were happy with! Would say to book if wanting a sit down experience or wanting to visit at a busy time! Really enjoyed our visit
Be sure to make a reservation whether you for lunch or dinner. There are only 10 -15 tables available and then, if course, there are a few spots at the bar. We went for the 15€ lunch special. It was comprised of an appetizer (a salad with chicken or eggplant topped with tomato sauce, basil, and parmesan cheese), a main (pork chops in a mushroom and Asian sauce or dorado/Mahi Mahi) and a dessert of either rice pudding or melon. So we started with the eggplant. OMG it was warm, not hot, but totally delicious. It also was served with olives and gerkins. Then we both had the pork chops that was served with fries and roasted padron peppers. The 2 chop were sliced about 1/2 inch thick and the sauce was lightly poured on top. It was so delicious that I wanted to lick my plate. The rice pudding, was rice pudding but with a sweet flowery taste and a light dusting of cinnamon over the top. Would we go back? Absolutely
Simply lovely Had the best slow-cooked lamb shoulder I’ve ever had. The croqueta is also a must-try. Relaxed and enjoyable dining environment.
Nice tapas bar / restaurant. Good for just a snack and drink or full diner. Prices are reasonable. Service is good. Good advise and we did not had to wait long. Glasses of wines are filled good. We did get a baileys on the house. Many food choice. We shared the burata, pulpo and beef cheeks. Cheese caje as desert. Very good atmosphere. For full diner make sure to have a reservation.
